Gerhard Buchbauer found the Neve 8078 console he had been searching for at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. 

“It was important for us to have a smooth transaction,” says Gerhard. “The console was situated in Chicago, and we are in Europe. During the pandemic, we weren't allowed to fly to Chicago, so we needed a partner to help with the acquisition process. That's when I got in touch with Jacob Schneider at Vintage King.” 

Vintage King helped Gerhard broker, decommission, package, and transport the Neve 8078 console from Chicago to the Vintage King Tech Shop, where our talented team of technicians helped restore the desk to its former glory.

Thanks to Vintage King’s expertise, SNAPSOUND features a state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos mix room with an Avid S6 control surface and Meyer Sound monitors that deliver cinematic depth and clarity while supporting a flexible mixing environment.

Once the console arrived at the Vintage King Tech Shop, Gerhard worked closely with Tech Manager Cedric Yee during the restoration process to ensure the desk met the needs of Prime Studio.

“There were a number of modifications on the desk that were not documented, so we had to decipher what they were and why they were integrated,” says Cedric. “We kept some and removed others. We replaced the old GML Fader Automation system with a new Flying Fader II system. We had to create a custom horizontal faceplate for the controls to fit them into the console.”  

In addition to the new automation system, Cedric and Rich Hunt also took apart and fully refurbished the entire desk and all of its PSUs. All of the patchbays were replaced and updated with new cabling, which was cut down, rebundled, and reterminated to EDAC connectors to better integrate into Prime Studio's setup.
