Greg Miner came to Vintage King with a bold vision, inspired by world-class studios like Blackbird, Skywalker Sound, and Manifold Recording.

“I wanted to combine the technical sophistication of those studios with a serene outdoor environment, plenty of natural light, and large open spaces,” Greg says.

Through close collaboration with Vintage King, Greg’s vision came to life. Nestled in the peaceful surroundings of Vernon Hills, the TEC Award-nominated Philharmonic Studios features a cutting-edge control room with an API 2448, a Dolby Atmos mix room, a dedicated overdub and mixing suite, and a spacious live room designed to inspire creativity.

To fulfill Philharmonic Studios’ wide-ranging equipment and integration needs, owner Greg Miner chose to work with Vintage King Audio Consultant James Good and Technician Frank Verschuuren.

James took the lead on system design and gear selection, crafting the technical backbone of Philharmonic’s cutting-edge setup. Assessing what gear Greg already had, James carefully curated a list for each room, including powerhouse consoles like the API 2448 and SSL AWS 924, Burl Audio converters, and ATC monitors.

“This was a true ground-up build, complete with a Dolby Atmos room, SSL AWS 924, API 2448 console, and an expansive tracking space. It was a massive undertaking,” says Frank, who oversaw the complex installation process.

The build-out included installing consoles, control surfaces, outboard gear, interfaces, and both stereo and immersive monitoring systems. Flexibility was key for Greg, so the studio was engineered to route audio seamlessly between rooms and give clients the ability to record anywhere in the building.

“Studios are not isolated boxes anymore; flexibility is the future,” Frank explains. “You need headphones here, mics there, Dante everywhere. That is what defines a modern professional studio. If a client wants to track in the hallway or even the bathroom, Philharmonic can handle it.”

Philharmonic Studios is a standout example of what’s possible when vision meets expertise. With Vintage King leading gear selection and system integration, the team built a flexible, future-ready space designed for top-tier performance.
